THOMAS PIPER, RN, BSN, CMSRN

Founder and CEO

I have been an RN for over 4 years, and I have traveled for over 2.  I am one of the founders of the Healthcare Travelers Take... conference.  In nursing school, I was very active on the local and state levels of Ohio Student Nursing Associations, Student Senate, and Men In Nursing. I volunteer at TravCon, and I decided that I wanted to do more in our community.

I started this website to fill a need I saw.  My hope is that it will be a valuable resource that is fluid in its' growth.

I have been married for over 7 years and have one beautiful daughter.  My wife and daughter inspire me to push my self and be more active in my career.
It is my desire to be an advocate for nurses, especially those who travel.

PATTY HINGST, RN,

RV Specialist

Most of you know me from FB as Patty Travels or Patty Hingst. I also answer to Mom, MeMom, sister and friend. I have been an ICU RN for 21 years. I love the travel industry and have been involved as a mentor for years on the travel pages. I have been traveling 6 years now and also travel with my husband who is a recruiter for Atlas Medstaff, Bob Hingst. I try to give a different perspective in the industry and come from both sides, traveler and agency which is sometimes missed in the discussion threads.

We travel in a Fifth wheel and have crossed the country countless times now from CA, to Maine, Florida to Oregon. I’ve worked in Alaska and Washington, DC and many other cool cities and I have no intention of stopping any time soon. I run a page called Adventures in RV Travel nursing. It is my favorite topic among all the industry topics! I also work hand in hand moderating on several boards owned by other industry leaders and teachers like Kay Epi Slane and Dorothy Grezik. I love the collaboration that the leaders in this industry have and are willing to share information, and help new travelers and experienced travelers navigate the land mines and pitfalls that can happen. Our goal is always the same, teach the facts, filter through the misinformation, and support the new travelers until they can become mentors.

I've been traveling for a little over 5 years. I work cv/picu/nicu. I've been a nurse for 10 years. Before that I worked as a horseback riding instructor and a slot attendant. People always ask what's the biggest jackpot you've see? 10 million and the guy was super pissed I had to lock the machine up to be checked. He tipped me 25 cents. The largest cash jackpot I paid 850,000. Want to feel important, walk through a casino with that sort of cash  🤣. Anyhow when I first went to college I went on a music scholarship. I just knew I would travel the world with an amazing orchestra or make movie soundtracks.....but then I grew up.
Nursing school was hard guys! My 3rd semester my dad passed away unexpectedly. He was my biggest cheerleader, how could I just go on? Also at this point I realized nursing was nothing like on TV. My clinical rotations weren't what I was expecting. My job as a monitor/ekg tech was ok but those tele nurses ran all night. I couldn't see myself doing any of these jobs long term. Then it happened, my ICU rotation, we were moving our stable pt over to her bed when she coded. I started chest compressions while my preceptor hit the code button and ventilated. I was offered a job after that and of course I was hooked on the icu.
Traveling though, the itch was still there. Before I had enough experience I got a call from a travel nurse company. My husband and I kinda laughed it off. I couldn't imagine being able to just "do that." Then one day the stars aligned and I took the plunge. Now we travel with the RV and bulldogs. We were only going to travel for a year and come home so I could go back to school. It hasn't happened yet! I've been so blessed to meet amazing people along the way and see the country. Have any questions hit me up. I may not know the answer but I probably know someone who does!
